Micronas introduces the DRX 394yJ, the world’s smallest 8VSB and multistandard hybrid DTV demodulator. The DRX 394yJ demodulates standard- and high-definition television signals according to ATSC-A/53, the North American digital television broadcast standard and QAM 64/256 signals as specified by ITU-T J.83 Annex B. It also incorporates a high performance NTSC demodulator with BTSC stereo decoder and A2 sound support for Korea. NTSC and BTSC signals are translated from a standard or low IF input signal to baseband (CVBS) video and digital (I2S) audio outputs. An additional sound IF output is provided for maximum system design flexibility. Digital terrestrial and digital cable outputs are provided via serial or parallel transport stream interfaces. The DRX 394yJ enables TV and STB manufacturers to provide devices that are compliant to CableLabs’ OpenCableTM initiative for Unidirectional Cable (UDC) via a point of deployment device (POD commonly called CableCard). It provides to the CableCard clock and scrambled data which the -CableCard decrypts. It also provides the necessary control signals (IF and RF AGC) and local oscillator drive for the OOB tuner. The DRX 394yJ is based on market leading primeD® technology, which is the field-proven “ghost friendly” 8VSB demodulator IP from Micronas. PrimeD-based ATSC demodulators further improve performance in multipath-rich environments and ensure reliable reception under severe signal conditions. In addition to state-of-the art 8VSB performance, the integrated NTSC demodulator of DRX 394yJ also ensures continued operation of legacy analog TV applications like DVD players, VCRs, game consoles, and analog cable TV. Designed with the complete system solution in mind, DRX 394yJ enables highly optimized adjacent channel performance by integrating a broadband input power detector. Additional features enable customers to utilize low-cost tuner options, further reducing the overall system cost. The API-based software interface enables effortless implementation into any system. Compatibility with existing Micronas ATSC receivers and other Micronas demodulator products reduces engineering cost by maximizing the re-use of existing software and product experience. |
