Short description

The FRC 9wxyM represents the latest generation of high-end flat-panel display processors. The vector-based 100/120 Hz Full-HD technology from Micronas brings reality to the TV experience at home.

Today, LCD weaknesses like motion blur and film judder affect the TV watching experience drastically. By using truD® Full-HD100/120 you will experience the clearest and smoothest picture ever.

Existing TV sets use motion-adaptive de-interlacing techniques to create the progressive frame. The conversion of 24p film sources to the LCD refresh rate of 50 Hz or 60 Hz causes film judder. This is because the 24 frames are repeated two or three times (2:2 or 3:2 pull-down) to match the LCD panel’s refresh rate.

Micronas’ unique Real Motion® HD, as part of the truD Full-HD 100/120 bundle, removes any annoying film judder up to Full-HD 120 Hz using motion-compensating de-interlacing by inserting additional, interpolated pictures into the original picture sequence. This virtually removes motion blur on high-end 120 Hz/1080p LCD TVs.

The FRC 9wxyM also incorporates a sophisticated color management that enables the best color adjustment including wide color gamut support for any panel.

System Architecture

Supported inputs are dual LVDS video signals and RGB 565 for graphic input. Graphic inputs can be converted to 100 or 120 Hz independent of the video stream. Thus, the original 4:4:4 quality of graphics can be preserved. The video input signals are always stored in the memory. A frame-rate interpolation follows the motion estimation and compensation functions. Finally, picture improvements and scaling is accomplished. Dynamic backlight control is provided by the PWM out.The built-in 8-bit microcontroller supports and controls the algorithms used in the IC. The master I2C bus can be used to attach an EEPROM which allows a μC-independent initialization transmitting all necessary firmware so that the FRC 9wxyM can run without any connection to a μC.
