In order to enable such high-definition content playback on mass-market PCs, Micronas introduces the MicRacer™ 1D-X PCI Express high-definition multi-format decoder development kit. The MicRacer 1D-X CPU acceleration offloads the PC CPU while performing the entire H.264 or VC-1 decode process in hardware with no special graphics adapter required. This acceleration provides the power to allow a mid-range PC to play back HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray DVDs. The PCI-Express bus is a universally applicable solution with complete drivers for Windows XP and pre-ported player software from the leading PC DVD player suppliers. This allows systems integrators to enable next-generation entertainment platforms in a multitude of configurations and price points and lowers the bar to acceptance for these new high-definition DVD standards. Available now from Micronas with a complete development kit that includes hardware and software, it enables PC manufacturers to be early to market with this advanced functionality.
