Short description

The MSP-M/MAP-M audio processor family represents the latest generation of -Micronas’ single-chip audio systems, specially designed for demanding high-end flat-panel TVs or audio solutions.

The MSP-M is dedicated for TVs receiving analog or analog/digital broadcast. It performs all baseband audio processing, provides all required interfaces, and is able to demodulate/decode all analog TV audio standards worldwide plus NICAM and FM stereo radio with RDS/RBDS.

The MAP-M is optimized for TVs focussing on digital broadcast reception, as well as other audio applications that demand high processing power and numerous interfaces. MAP-M has the same functions, I/Os, and building blocks as the MSP-M, except for the demodulator/stereo decoder.

Both ICs are fully pin- and software compatible acting as central and only audio device in modern TVs or other audio applications.

MSP-M/MAP-M is powered by Micronas' unique 24/48-bit QuadMAU DSP (Quadruple Mathematical Arithmetic Unit) which performs all TV-specific and baseband audio processing. This comprises basic corrections such as parametric equalizer or lip sync delay plus a wide choice of add-on technologies. They include 3rd party audio algorithms, as well as highly-recognized audio technologies which are available under Micronas’ -meloDTM brand.

The functionality of MSP-M/MAP-M can be further extended by using the DSP-code download option which allows customer-specific audio algorithms and ported 3rd party algorithms under license to be processed on MSP-M/MAP-M.

MSP-M/MAP-M is equipped with CMP, the Micronas Customizable Modular Processing. CMP allows individual placing and linking of audio processing blocks within MSP-M/MAP-M and therefore enables the creation of exactly the processing structure required by the application.

System Architecture

MSP-M/MAP-M consequently enables “multi-source processing” which is a must in mid-range and high-end TVs. “Multi-source processing” ensures that all input and output signals are processed simultaneously (e.g. Digital TV via I2S to main speakers, Demodulator input to LINE out for recording and DVD input via S/PDIF to headphones at the same time).

MSP-M/MAP-M provides a leading set of analog and digital interfaces to seamlessly connect to all kinds of audio signals. It includes high-end multibit Sigma-Delta D/A converters and PWM modulators which are capable of driving analog or class-D amplifiers directly. An integrated headphone amplifier, as well as a Microphone pre-amplifier, further reduces the need for external components.

High-quality sampling rate converters provide auto-synchronization to the sampling rate of external devices, including decoders or HDMI receivers, connected via I2S or S/PDIF interfaces. Lip sync delay can be realized either with the internal delay line, or alternatively via the I2S delay interface and an external delay-IC.

MSP-M/MAP-M also supports S/PDIF delay and SPDIF to I2S conversion for compressed and uncompressed data streams.
